Gridfinity baseplate generator
The baseplate is the grid your Gridfinity bins stand on. Boxie generates it for your exact drawer, cuts it into pieces that fit your print bed and joins them with small clips, so the pieces hold together like one plate.
From drawer size to grid
Gridfinity cells are 42 × 42 mm. Measure the inside of your drawer and Boxie fits as many whole cells as it can: a 450 × 380 mm drawer takes a 10 × 9 grid (420 × 378 mm). The space left over becomes even margins, so the plate sits centred. If you already know the grid you want, enter it in cells instead.
Split to fit your print bed
A plate for a whole drawer is too big to print in one go. Boxie cuts it into pieces of at most 5 × 5 cells (210 × 210 mm), which fit a 256 mm bed such as a Bambu Lab P1S with room for a brim. By default it cuts every five cells; click any grid line to add or remove a cut yourself, for example to get identical pieces that print from one file.
Clips that hold the pieces together
Turn on connectable pieces and every edge gets a small clip pocket. A clip pressed in from the top joins two pieces and restores the Gridfinity profile over the seam, so a box can stand right across it. Boxie counts the clips you need and adds them to the download.
Magnet holes, or a light open frame
Without magnets the baseplate is a 5 mm open frame that prints quickly and uses little filament. With magnets it gets a skeleton floor with four holes for 5 × 2 mm magnets in every cell (8.4 mm high), so the bins snap into place. By default the plate gets magnet holes when your boxes have them.
Questions and answers
How tall is a Gridfinity baseplate?
5 mm for the standard open frame, or 8.4 mm with a floor that holds 5 × 2 mm magnets.
Can I generate just a baseplate?
Yes. Plan the drawer without any boxes and the download holds only the baseplate pieces and their clips. Bins from anywhere will fit it.
What if my print bed is smaller?
Click grid lines to cut smaller pieces, such as 4 × 4 cells (168 mm) for a 180 mm bed.
Do I need to glue the pieces?
No. With connectable pieces the printed clips hold them together. Without clips the pieces simply lie side by side in the drawer.
